How to Structure Your 5 UCAS Choices
UK applicants can select up to 5 courses on their UCAS application (or 4 for Medicine, Dentistry, and Veterinary Science). A balanced portfolio protects against unexpected grade fluctuations.
Slightly Above Predicted
Courses where entry requirements match or are 1 grade above your highest predicted grades. Gives you an ambitious target.
Exactly on Predicted
Courses that align precisely with your current realistic working grade profile and teacher predictions.
1–2 Grades Below
A university you would genuinely love to attend that asks for grades below your predictions. Crucial backup.
Calculate your UCAS Tariff points
Add each qualification once, then choose the grade you have or expect.
Your total does not guarantee entry or an offer.
Universities and courses set their own entry requirements. Some ask for specific grades or subjects instead of a Tariff total, and they may only count certain qualifications. Always check the individual course page before applying.

Register on UCAS Hub & Link to School/College Buzzword
If applying through your school or sixth form, enter their unique buzzword so your referee can attach your predicted grades.
Enter All Qualifications (GCSEs, BTECs, A-Levels with Pending status)
You must declare every qualification taken, including GCSEs. Withholding low GCSE grades can invalidate university offers.
Add Your 5 University & Course Choices
Universities do NOT see where else you have applied until after you make final decisions in June.
Draft & Refine Your Personal Statement
Focus on academic motivation, supra-curricular reading, and intellectual engagement with your chosen subject.
Teacher Reference & Predicted Grades Attachment
Your referee completes the academic reference and inputs verified predicted grades before final submission.
Pay Application Fee & Final Submission
Pay the UCAS application fee (£28.50 for up to 5 choices in the current cycle) and submit.
